Main AttractionsTokyo National Museum
Near the Ueno Station, inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Imperial Gift Park , the Tokyo National Museum houses the world's largest collection of Japanese art. On display are woodblock prints, vintage kimonos, and artefacts unearthed from archaeological expeditions. The size of the collection means that only four thousand artefacts can be displayed at one time, so visitors always find something new as the museum periodically rotates the items on exhibit. The museum itself takes up 5 buildings containing several galleries to explore. Other cultural institutions are housed in the Imperial Gift Park . There's a zoo, Bunka Kaikan Cultural Hall, the Metropolitan Art Museum , the National Science Museum and the Western Art Museum . Address: 13-9 Ueno Park , Taito-ku Telephone: (03) 3822 1111 Website: http://www.tnm.go.jp Transport: 10 minutes walk from Ueno or Uguisudani Station on the JR line. |
