Tours Around TokyoTokyo, Mount Fuji
Around 100km southwest of Tokyo is Mount Fuji . The dormant volcano has been held in reverence since ancient times, and is one of Japan 's most famous natural landmarks. Affectionately known as "Fuji-san" among the locals, it's beautifully symmetrical cone peaks at 3,776 metres and is covered with snow. Fuji Yoshida is the closest town to the volcano. Many bus trips depart here for the "fifth stage" of Mt. Fuji , the usual starting point for hikes. Of the six trails leading to the summit, Kawaguchiko Trail is the easiest to take, and even children accompanied by their parents manage their way through this route. There are huts for overnight stays. The official climbing season is from July to August, before the winter snowfall.
