Tourist Information about Seattle
The largest city in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is a beautiful region that has mountains and the ocean to attract any intrepid visitor. It is considered one of the US's most desirable residential locations. Seattle is often called the "Emerald City", as the city is known to transform into beautiful hues, especially after rainfall. The city was formed in 1869, after having existed as an incorporated town for two years. Seattle was named so in honor of an Indian chief, Noah Sealth, who was leader of two tribes, the Duwamish and the Suquamish. Major events have rocked the city of Seattle since from the time it was founded. It survived the Great Seattle Fire of 1889 that destroyed much of the central business district and it held the first general strike in the country, the Seattle General Strike of 1919. In spite of these, the city has managed to hold its own and transform into a place of culture, music, and of course, coffee. It is the former home of the Boeing headquarters and is also home to Microsoft Incorporated, the biggest computer software company in the world. Seattle has many known landmarks, and these include the Seattle Space Needle, the Pike Place market, the Experience Music Project, and the Bank of America Tower. Of course, no Seattle landmark is complete without the original home of Starbucks, which is still in business until today. Seattle has a diverse, vibrant city culture that is echoed in its many festivals and events. It's not just the home of grunge music and of coffee lovers, it is an internationally cosmopolite city that is attractive on its own terms. |
