Sylvia Beach, the Parisian publisher of Ulysses, founded the museum in 1962. Joyce stayed at the tower in 1904 and the setting inspired the first chapter of his book. On display are first editions of many of Joyce's works, and many other significant memorabilia. Telephone: (01) 280 9265 |

About 14km from the city is the James Joyce Museum , located in the Martello Tower , a former military installation dating back to 1804 that was originally built to protect Ireland from possible naval attacks from Napoleon. The tower was eventually demilitarised in the 1860s.
