Dublin, getting there & around

Aer Lingus has regular flight into Dublin International Airport from major cities around the world. Dublin International Airport (tel. 01/814-1111; http://www.dublin-airport.com/) is 11km (7 miles) north of the city centre.

The Arrivals Concourse has a Travel Information Desk that provides the schedules of rail services and public buses.

Getting Around

Traffic around the city is generally bad, although the recent light rail service LUAS (Gaelic for "speed") lets you travel easily between the main sights and places of interest.

From Thursday to Saturday, between midnight and 3am , the Nitelink bus service operates around the city. The DART rapid transit train connects the city centre with the outlying suburbs and coastal towns. Combination passes are available for bus and train rides.

Taxis are not easy to find after 11pm during the weekend if you happen to be in the city centre. Otherwise, taxis can be hailed in the street, although it can be faster to look for a queue of taxis or arrange for a pick up over the phone.

It isn't very practical to rent a car while staying in Dublin , although they can be useful if you are planning a trip to the surrounding areas.
