Dublin Castle

In 1204, King John ordered the construction of Dublin Castle . He intended it to be a fortress for the administration of the city.

The Castle underwent a series of renovations, and today the only original structure that survives is the Norman Tower .

During the 17th century, Dublin Castle contained Law Courts and the residence of the viceroy. Parliament meetings were held at the castle regularly.

Today, special state occasions are still held at the impressive State Apartments which were added to the Castle in the 18th century.
