Dubai, events
Most of Dubai 's holidays, particularly the religious holidays follow the Hejira calendar so there is no exact date equivalent to the Western Gregorian version. Among the Islamic festivities celebrated are the Eid al-Fitr, which is the end of Ramadan, the Eid-al-Adha, a celebration done after Pilgrimage, Lailat al-Mi'raj, the Islamic New Year and the Prophet's Birtday. Ramadan is another annual celebration where Muslims do not fast throughout the month. Aside from the Islamic-related events, there are also other events that involve tourists. Between mid-January and mid-February, the Dubai Shopping Festival is held. Other similar shopping festivals include the Dubai Summer Surprises and Dubai , The City That Cares. The city also hosts The Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race. It is also important to note that unlike other countries, Dubai enjoys their weekends on Thursday and Friday. |
