Fort SumterBoasted as one of the most historic military sites in the whole country, Fort Sumter National Monument is where first shots were fired during the American Civil War in 1861. They were the first prisoners of the Civil War. The fort was then occupied by the Confederates but was regained by the Union in 1865. Charleston MuseumFounded in 1773, this attraction gives a picture of Charleston and the South Carolina Low country in its early days. Next to the country's museum are two National Historic Landmark houses, which reflect Southern life of before.
