Tours around Cambridge
A wonderful introduction to the city is an Official Guided Walking Tour. Conducted daily, the 2-hour tours leave from the Tourist Information Centre in Wheeler Street . Book at least half an hour ahead since each tour only goes to a limited set of places. On summer nights there are "Drama Tours" where costumed actors play the part of historical figures such as Isaac Newton and Henry VIII. Blue Badge Guides oversee each tour; any group visiting one of the colleges must be accompanied by a qualified Guide. For more details, prices, and to book tickets contact the Tourist Information Centre Tel: 322640; group bookings Tel: 457574. OPEN TOP BUS TOURS: The Cambridge Tour takes you through many of the main colleges, offering idyllic views of the "Backs" of the River Cam, and a visit to the American Military Cemetery at Madingley. Many trips leave during the day, starting at Cambridge Railway Station, with a number of stops along the way. Details and tickets are available from The Guide Friday Tourism Centre, the Tourist Information Centre, or on the bus. Tel: 362444 for more details. |
