Climate

The warmer climate is experienced in Cairo. It temperature is from 52 degrees to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. From July to August, Cairo is hottest and from March to April, the weather at night is a little cooler and refreshing. The "Khamsin", hotter sand-laden wind or sandstorm strikes within February and May.

Language

The official language of Egypt is Arabic and so is Cairo. However, French and English are also used especially with tourists and businessmen.

Currency

The official currency of Egypt is Egyptian pound. One pound is equivalent to 100 piastres. Available bills are in terms of 1,5,10,20,50, and 100 pounds. Available coins is 50 piastres. Credit cards are also accepted in most shopping centers in Cairo.

Religion

Islam is the predominant religion in Cairo, which means that most local residents are conservative in dress style although visitors are not strictly required to follow dress code. About 95 % is Muslim, and the rest is Christian.

 Entry Requirements of Tourist

Valid passport and visa are required to all visitors except citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Tourists from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States can acquire visa in Egypt upon arrival.

Health

Sunburn and dehydration are common health risks of tourists in Cairo. Visitors are encouraged to be extra cautious by bringing sun protection lotion and to keep higher fluid intake. Diarrhea is another health problem, it is advised to drink bottled water.

Tipping

Tips are accepted by porters, cab drivers, and other forms of odd jobs.

Safety and Security

In recent years, Egypt was not exempted in terrorist attacks however, the government of Egypt is doing its best by creating measures to safeguard tourists and visitors in cities like Cairo. For street crimes like pickpockets, tourists are reminded to be always vigilant. But generally, Cairo is a safe place for travelers.
