Cairo, getting there and around
Since Cairo is a focus of land, river, and air and so its transportation is not considered a problem. Many air routes connect Cairo to the rest of the world. By Plane Hailed as the greatest air terminal in the Middle East, planes are available from Europe, Asia down to Australia and some parts of South Africa. Reaching the Cairo International Airport, tourists and visitors would travel about 35 minutes going to the city proper. By Taxi/Ca: From Cairo airport, taxis and limousines are available to carry you to the metropolis center. Taxis with black or yellow or white paints are the registered ones, but there are other taxi services offered. Some uses electronic meter while others can be negotiated before speeding off. Fare ranges from 40 to 75 Egyptian pound. Just be aware that there are few rogue taxi drivers but generally many taxi drivers can be your guide, a protector, or even a friend. Microbuses Private enterprise in Cairo provides mini buses. Mini buses are unmarked with destinations so you need to shout loud where you wish to go. The fare is higher than public transport. The METRO The metro is a preferable alternative for transport. It is clean, cool, safe and cheap. Metro runs in two lines, one along the east bank of the Nile from Helwan to Al-Marg and the other line from Shubra to Giza. Limousines Cairo also provides hire limousine, not a very world class type though. Fare is simply fair. Hiring car You can hire car but just be sure the driver is aged 25 years and can present international driving permit. Most hotels have agents to give proper instructions where to get quality hired cars. Getting Around Cairo is rich with cultural and historical heritage. Traveling around the city is a must for tourists and visitors who really wish to explore every corner of the city. With plenty of museums, stunning pyramid, calm mosques and serene churches, public squares and gardens, and antique shops, your stay projects a lasting memory. Cairo by night is a transformed city of national and international plays, casinos and popular night clubs compliment the variety of entertainment like belly dancing and folkloric shows. |
