Bucharest, getting there & around

Bucharest can be reached by air or train. The national air carrier, TAROM, has its main base at the Otopeni Airport. It has international flights coming from USA, Asia, Australia, Europe, Nothern Africa, and the Middle East. Other major international carriers also provide transportation to the tourists headed to the beautiful city of Bucharest such as Lufthansa, Air Canada, Alitalia, and Air France. There are also some private airlines based at the Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.

Getting Around

The Romanian train services are efficient and inexpensive by Western standards. The Hungarian railways and the Polish railways are two very high quality train services that transport tourists into and out of Bucharest. EuroCity and EuroNight trains offer trips to Budapest via the city of Arad. The Intercity and Rapid train services also provide transportation to Bucharest and all major cities of Romania.

The city's transport network is the largest in the country, and in Central and Eastern Europe as well. The Metrorex runs the Bucharest Metro, an underground public urban railway network that is considered one of the most accessed in Bucharest. There is also the RATB, or the Regia Autonoma de Transport Bucuresti, which operates all public transport in Bucharest except for the Bucharest Metro.

Tourists may also opt to go around the city using the efficient and convenient private taxi system.
