I love Belfast and its many festivals and other special events that get to be held every year. Film lovers will love March because of the Belfast Film Festival. I like the same month for St Patrick's Carnival on the 17th. St. Patrick is Ireland’s national saint. There are a lot of community festivals and a grand city-centre carnival on this day, not to mention a lot of the color green. Other carnival-themed events are the Féile an Phobail or the West Belfast Festival in August, the Halloween Carnival on 27-31 October, and the Belfast Festival at Queen's University during three weeks in late October and early November. May and September has the annual Summer in the City, which is a series of events run by the city council. I was able to watch several concerts, like Lord Mayor's Show, that range from classical to traditional. My friend ran in the Belfast Marathon, which is usually held on the first Monday in May. He lost but I had fun. There is also the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival. For twelve days, I was able to have my fill of music, poetry, street theatre and art exhibitions. |
